The New Latin Sound

Warekes

Warekes is an international Latin World Music collective based between The Hague and Rotterdam.
Founded in 2019 by Venezuelan musician Martín Mayo and formed within the creative communities
of Codarts and the Royal Conservatoire, the collective focuses on creating a “New Folklore Without
Borders.”

The collective takes its name from the Chayma language of the indigenous Cumanagoto people of
Eastern Venezuela. Warekes are small frogs that sing in counterpoint when the rain falls. This
natural harmony mirrors the band’s central ethos: bringing diverse people together through
rhythm, storytelling, and shared experiences.

A Warekes performance is highly interactive. While the core of the repertoire consists of original
songs, they seamlessly integrate them with classic Salsa and Cumbia rhythms, as well as using
atmospheric pre-recorded sounds make the sound bigger and modern. Whether they are turning a
club into a tropical dancefloor with up-tempo rhythms and special surprises, or taking a seated
audience on an emotional journey, a Warekes concert is always filled with good music, genuine
connection, and unforgettable moments.
