Over Aleksandra Popovska
‘Transformatief’ vat de diepgang van Aleksandra Popovska’s creatieve genialiteit misschien niet helemaal samen. Geworteld in een unieke mix van invloeden en een weigering om beperkt te worden, beweegt ze moeiteloos voorbij de grenzen van tijd en traditie, waarbij ze verschillende muzikale erfenissen eert, maar er helemaal niet bij hoort. Haar kunst tart categorisering en put uit een rijk repertoire aan technieken die vocale beheersing, muziekproductie en een intuïtieve fusie van Macedonische traditionele muziek, populaire muziek en experimentele geluiden omvatten. In de afgelopen twee decennia is Popovska erin geslaagd een uniek geluid te creëren dat zowel haar roots weerspiegelt als een mogelijke toekomst voor zich ziet, door samen te werken met bijna alle vooraanstaande producers en popartiesten in Skopje.
Ze heeft honderden optredens gegeven, zoals op het Rotterdam Opera Festival, het Music Meeting Festival Nijmegen, Warsaw Autumn, de Nationale Opera en Ballet van Macedonië, OFFest Skopje en nog veel meer.
Over Raul Santana
Raul Santana is een Spaanse pianist. Hij begon op 6-jarige leeftijd met het spelen van klassieke piano en ging hiermee door totdat hij zijn liefde voor improvisatie ontdekte en op 14-jarige leeftijd moderne muziek begon te spelen. Op 19-jarige leeftijd verhuisde hij naar Nederland om een bachelor in jazzpiano te studeren aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, gevolgd door een master aan Codards Rotterdam.
Raul combineert zowel zijn klassieke als moderne achtergrond en zijn stijl is zeer eclectisch. De actie van improvisatie en instant compositie zijn bepalende elementen van zijn speelstijl. Hij heeft gewerkt als begeleider, bandlid en solist, en heeft ervaring als componist en arrangeur. Raul heeft verschillende albums opgenomen als sideman, waarvan de laatste “Songs of Rage and Impotence” van Guillermo Martín-Viana is. Hij is ook te horen in “So Far” van Gottfried di Franco en “Lost In” van Swart., onder andere. Met deze en andere bands toerde hij meerdere malen door Europa, van het nabijgelegen België, Duitsland of Frankrijk tot het verdere Roemenië, Estland en Tsjechië. Zijn spel bracht hem tot gouden standaardscenario’s van jazz als Bimhuis, LantarenVenster of TivoliVredenburg in Nederland.

Transformative might not fully capture the depth of Aleksandra Popovska’s creative brilliance. Rooted in a unique blend of influences and a refusal to be confined, she moves effortlessly beyond the bounds of time and tradition, honoring various musical legacies while belonging to none completely. Her art defies categorization, drawing from a rich repertoire of techniques that span vocal mastery, music production, and an intuitive fusion of Macedonian traditional music, popular music, and experimental sounds.
In the last two decades, Popovska managed to craft a unique sound that both reflects her roots and envisions a possible future, collaborating with nearly all the prominent producers and pop artists in Skopje.
She has given hundreds of performances, such as at the Rotterdam Opera Festival, the Music Meeting Festival Nijmegen, Warsaw Autumn, the National Opera and Ballet of Macedonia, OFFest Skopje, and many many more.

Raul Santana is a Spanish pianist. He started playing classical piano at the age of 6 and continued until he discovered his love for improvisation, starting to play modern music at the age of 14. At 19 he moved to the Netherlands in order to study a Bachelor in jazz piano at the Koninklijke Conservatorium of The Hague, followed by a Master at Codards Rotterdam.
Combining both his classical and modern background, Raul’s style is very eclectic. The action of improvisation and instant composition are defining elements of his playing style. He’s been working as an accompanist, band-member and a soloist, as well as having experience as a composer and arranger. Raul has recorded several albums as a sideman, the latest being “Songs of Rage and Impotence” of Guillermo Martín-Viana. He can also be heard in “So Far” by Gottfried di Franco and “Lost In” by Swart., amongst others. With these and other bands he’s toured several times around Europe, in the nearby Belgium, Germany or France to the further Romania, Estonia and Czech Republic. His playing has brought him to gold-standard scenarios of jazz as Bimhuis, LantarenVenster or TivoliVredenburg in the Netherlands.
